The Pringle’s in South Africa On 15 February 1820 a settler party led by Thomas Pringle sailed from Gravesend on the “Brilliant” for South Africa. They arrived, via Cape Town, in Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape on 15 May. Amongst the party were: Robert Pringle and his sons:Thomas (aged 29 from 1st marriage) the poet, writer and later Secretary of the Anti-slavery Society John (aged 30 from 1st marriage)William Dods (aged 10 from 2nd marriage)Later in 1822 another son also William (from 1st marriage) also emigrated to South Africa.
